Private messaging

Private messaging allows members to have live-updated direct messages with each other, reducing the need for email-based communication. Messages are displayed in the Messages area (click View All Messages) and can be read or archived as needed. Members can block members from contacting them, and can see a full history of private messages in their profile.

When a member creates a new private message, they can select one or more recipients. All recipients must be members of the site, but they do not need to be members of the same community. Messages are treated the same as comments or microblogs, and can contain @mentions or hashtags just like other site content.

A member’s number of private messages is displayed next to the envelope icon on their profile, and clicking this will reveal a list of all current messages, both sent and received. Members can also perform full-text searches of all messages in the Messages section, or filter them by Active, Unread, or Archive with the More actions button.
